MELCAYA at 9th National Conference of Melanoma Romania

AMER (Asociația Melanom România) was pleased to welcome MELCAYA partner Dr Ines Brecht from Tübingen University Hospital, Germany, as a speaker at the 9th National Conference of Melanoma Romania.

The conference, “Innovation in Melanoma – Together We Can Save Lives,” took place on 26–27 June 2026 in Craiova, Romania, at the Ramada Plaza Hotel.

The conference featured an extensive programme dedicated to access to comprehensive melanoma care in Romania and patient education, including a special session focused on children, adolescents and young adults (CAYA):“Connecting Local Expertise to European Care: ERN PaedCan and MELCAYA in Practice”delivered online by Dr Ines Brecht, MELCAYA, Tübingen University Hospital, Germany.

Dr Ines Brecht presented the experience of the European Paediatric Rare Tumour Group (EXPeRT) in improving care for children and adolescents with rare tumours. She highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary expert networks, reference pathology and virtual tumour boards, cross-border access to highly specialised care through European Reference Networks, and comprehensive molecular characterisation to support diagnosis and treatment.

She also discussed how ERNs connects with MELCAYA, including research into melanoma in children, adolescents and young adults, molecular profiling, and the development of more appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for this rare patient population.

The full conference programme is available on the AMER website, and Dr Brecht’s presentation can be watched on the AMER YouTube channel.
